Stop Trying

A poem by Linda Ellis — stop "trying" to be happy and just do it anyway! Happy is a sense of inner gratitude occurring naturally — let it happen, let it grow, let it be.

Stop Trying

Happy shouldn't be an adjective
to describe the way you feel,
but an awareness deep within you
that is genuine and real…

a sense of inner gratitude
occurring naturally.
Let it happen, let it grow,
let it blossom, let it be.

You are not promised a tomorrow,
nor guaranteed this day,
so, stop "trying" to be happy
and just do it anyway!

If you wait to learn the steps,
you may never get to dance.
If you wait to become happy,
you may never get the chance.

Happy isn't found in money
or in buying precious things.
It's not housed in fancy furnishings
or necklaces and rings.

It's a simple truth that follows
your own soul's intuition.
Let it occupy each moment
without any inhibition.

Someday, someone will stand
to speak aloud kind words of me.
I hope they'll say: "She was happy
because she didn't TRY to be."
